Tanhai Collective will perform their signature blend of improvised Jazz with Soulful and Funk grooves. Made up of 6 musicians who’ve grown up together in London and have been playing as a band since the age of 18, the band’s high level of chemistry creates spontaneous moments within their live performances making no two shows the same.
The band has been making a name for themselves in the UK, performing at established Jazz Club institutions such as Ronnie Scott’s (where they’ve had over 15 sold out shows) and to younger audiences at club nights and venues such as Camden's Jazz Cafe. The bands highlights include BBC Radio 6 Interviews, Supporting Herbie Hancock's Headhunters band, multiple UK tours and many more. The band is doing other EU dates this summer including a new festival in Romania and Jassmine in Warsaw, Poland.
The members attended various youth music programmes in London including Tomorrow's Warriors, whose alumni include Ezra Collective, Nubya Garcia, Soweto Kinch, Shabaka Hutchins, Joe Armon Jones and many more who’ve defined the sound of contemporary UK Jazz in the last decade. The band, being a generation younger than these established artists and musicians, have started to make their mark in this explosive moment of UK Jazz creativity and exploration and have been tipped by broadcasters, musicians and critics alike as being a key band of their generation.
The band have a deep appreciation for the lineage of the Jazz tradition which reflects in their unique mix of contemporary UK sounds while respecting time honoured, passed down methods and vocabulary of 20th century Jazz. The band has something for both Jazz traditionalists and those looking for something novel and unique.
