In this concert we propose a complete interpretation of one of the fundamental landmarks of Tomás Luis de Victoria's production: the Officium defunctorum, composed in 1603 for the funeral rites of Empress Maria of Austria. This work, one of the most significant by the master from Abulus, belongs to the last stage of his life, when he served as chaplain at the Convent of the Royal Discalced Carmelites in Madrid, an institution founded by the Empress herself and intimately linked to his life and artistic journey.
