The programme offers an immersion in the many expressions of human emotion as depicted in 17th- and 18th-century Italian secular music. The title is inspired by the Italian interjection ohimè — equivalent to a lament or sigh — which is frequently found in the poetry and vocal music of the period, evoking feelings of pain, longing, surprise or desperate love.
