This concert takes the audience on a musical journey through different cultures, eras and styles, exploring the full expressive richness of the saxophone quartet. From Astor Piazzolla’s tango to the Spanish sounds of Gerónimo Giménez and Manuel de Falla, the programme combines tradition and innovation. Contemporary works, such as Jérôme Naulais’s Toquades and Philippe Geiss’s Patchwork, showcase the quartet’s virtuosity and versatility. Portugal’s musical heritage is highlighted through arrangements of iconic pieces such as Foi Deus, Desfolhada Portuguesa, O Pastor and Vejam Bem, evoking different dimensions of the nation’s cultural identity. Their rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah adds a moment of lyricism and introspection. Bridging the gap between popular and classical music, this concert celebrates music as a universal language capable of uniting cultures, emotions and generations.
