Dancing Fountains is an academic project in dance-based arts outreach by Beatriz Dias and Inês Arrenegado, both graduates of the Superior School of Dance, developed as part of the Master’s in Choreographic Creation and Professional Practices at the Superior School of Dance. It arose from a personal desire to explore the relationships between the body, public space and collective memory.
Taking a fountain in the town of Alcobaça as a meeting point, the project seeks to transform this everyday place into a space for creation, memory and sharing. Through movement, listening and dialogue between generations, stories from the community intersect with the choreographic process developed by the dancers.
Over several months of rehearsals, meetings and the collection of testimonies, Dancing Fountains investigated how dance can activate public spaces, awaken memories and bring different people together in the same place.
The project involved dancers from the Alcobaça Dance Academy and senior citizens from the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Alcobaça, promoting a process of artistic mediation that values experiences, narratives and the emotional connection with the city.
