The group Estardalhaço da Geringonça was founded in 1997. At a time when ‘Dixieland’ groups were almost non-existent in our country, seven musicians combined their solid artistic training with the desire to enter the field of jazz language and improvisation, creating a project full of creativity, virtuosity, interactivity and good humour, which would become one of the references for other groups.
In 2000, they released their first and only album, entitled Old Tradition New Ignition, and became one of the few bands in this musical genre with an author's edition. This album, recorded in December 1998, was later released at a memorable concert at the Cine-Teatro de Alcobaça on 1 April 2000.
Their CV includes appearances at various Jazz Festivals (Valado dos Frades, Óbidos, Lagoa, Cantanhede, Festa do Jazz at S. Luiz, Tomar, Minde) and on various television programmes. They have also performed at the emblematic Hot Clube and SpeakEasy clubs and in several leading venues.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album's release, the group has reunited for a series of concerts where they will revisit their record.
