The Tears of Orlando di Lasso
FREE ENTRANCE
On the brink of death, Orlando di Lasso composed The Tears of Saint Peter, a collection of 21 works which he dedicated to the Pope, in the hope that they might contribute to the forgiveness of his sins as he departed this earthly life.
He passed away before he could hear them.
This music expresses both the suffering endured by Peter, who repented of having betrayed Christ, and all the peace and grace he felt he had lost.
This conversation explores the remarkable figure of Orlando di Lasso and the key characteristics of his creative genius, in the context of his time.
