This concert offers a musical and spiritual journey through three choral works that, despite their geographical and stylistic differences, share a common impulse: to give voice to memory, light and transcendence.
Eleanor Daley's Requiem interweaves liturgical texts with contemporary English poetry in a serene tribute to the departed. Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Fauré is based on an old Christian hymn adapted by Jean Racine and expresses a luminous spirituality with melodic clarity and expressive restraint.
Ola Gjeilo's Sunrise Mass closes the programme with a contemporary approach to the Mass. Written for choir and string orchestra, it charts a symbolic journey from darkness to light. With influences from minimalism, choral music and the cinematic universe, Gjeilo creates an ethereal and contemplative atmosphere that invites inner elevation.
