Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Mass in C minor, K. 427, is one of the composer’s most magnificent and expressive sacred works. Written between 1782 and 1783, shortly after his move to Vienna, the mass reflects a period of intense artistic maturity, in which Mozart combines spiritual depth with highly virtuosic musical composition.
Although left unfinished, the work impresses with its wealth of contrasts and the emotional power of its movements. The Kyrie and Gloria reveal a striking alternation between solemnity and exuberance, whilst the solo arias, particularly the Et incarnatus est, display delicate lyricism and technical refinement, with the dialogue between the soprano and the wind instruments standing out.
