Mahler's 2nd
Alto Minho Youth Orchestra
The Alto Minho Youth Orchestra (AMYO) is an ambitious project based in Viana do Castelo. Over the years, it has brought together young musicians from all over the world who, guided by internationally renowned musicians, perform some of the most emblematic works in the symphonic repertoire at the highest level.
To mark its fifth anniversary, these young people, under the direction of conductor Miguel Sepúlveda, will explore some of the most fundamental and timeless questions of the human condition: ‘What is life and what is death? Will we live forever? Is it all an empty dream, or do life and death have some meaning?’ Based on these premises, Mahler composes the monumental Symphony N.º 2, ‘Resurrection.’
Joining forces with its sister project, the Alto Minho International Choir, and alongside soprano Sílvia Sequeira and mezzo-soprano Cláudia Ribas, AMYO invites the audience to a period of introspection or, simply, a moment of pure enjoyment in the face of one of the most transcendent works of the symphonic canon.
