Quinteto Sextante

String quartet with clarinet

The concert will begin with one of the most famous works in the chamber repertoire of late romanticism.
The Clarinet Quintet in B minor, by the German composer Johannes Brahms, was composed in 1891. This work is notable for its expressiveness and emotion, with the composer using the clarinet to create lyrical and beautiful melodies, which in turn contrast with more energetic and dramatic passages.
In addition, this music is extremely rich in texture and harmony, and the voices of all the instruments are meticulously balanced in order to achieve a very enveloping sound.
Having said that, next up is a contemporary Portuguese work by the composer Fernando Lapa. Suite Raiana is entirely based on traditional Beira Baixa melodies that represent a wide range of expressions, deeply rooted in the life of the rural world, and themselves the result of different experiences, between work and pilgrimage, religious festivities or the harshness of the harvest. There is also a deep religious sense behind many of them, present in the various melodies and songs referring to Our Lady.
Finally, we present a short piece entitled Pagina d'album, by the composer Michele Mangani, which we hope everyone will enjoy.
