Symphonic Concert

Beethoven's music is distinguished by the expression of ideals, as if he maintained a privileged relationship with the world and posterity. His five piano concertos help us understand how he got there. The third one, in particular, is a work of transition, when we can still glimpse the presence of Mozart's figure, but the expressive traits that made him unique are already evident. In this programme we also have the opportunity to listen to two other composers. From Prokofiev, Symphony n.º 1, which today we know by the name "Classical". In the middle of World War I, with clarity and sobriety, it proposed itself as an alternative to the alleged psychological decadentism associated with the Germanic musical production of the previous decades. Above all, António Victorino d'Almeida was a tireless disseminator of music. His vast catalogue as a composer still awaits, however, greater publicity. Let us begin with the Abertura Clássica (on a popular Portuguese theme), a work from 1991.
