The Orquestra Académica Filarmónica Portuguesa, under the baton of maestro Kjell Seim, presents a programme that brings us the Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16 by Edvard Grieg, considered one of the most popular and iconic works of the romantic repertoire. The concert will be performed by the young pianist, Yanjun Chen, winner of the 24th edition of the Santa Cecilia International Competition. Yanjun was born in China, but currently lives in Germany, where she studies with Arie Vardi. In his young career he already has several international awards, namely "Yamaha Asia Conservatory Scholarship Competition", "Zhuhai International MozartCompetition for Young Musicians", "1st American Classical Music Competition".
The Orquestra Académica transports us into the wonderful sound universe of Claude Debussy with his masterpiece La Mer. Composed in three movements, De l'aube à midi sur la mer (From dawn to midday on the sea), Jeux de vagues (Wave games) and Dialogue du vent et de la mer (Dialogue of the wind and the sea), La Mer portrays in an impressionistic way the nuances, the movements and the grandiosity of the sea. Debussy's music envelops us in sonorous colours and evocative textures, transporting us to a stunning maritime setting.
