Saint-Saëns and Oswald - A new encounter

Quartet with piano

Je suis enchanté. C'est une œuvre de maître et surtout très personnelle. Vous êtes un artiste, monsieur.

These have been the words Saint-Saëns spoke when he heard Henrique Oswald's Piano Quartet for the first time in São Paulo, with the composer himself at the piano. During Saint-Saëns' trip to Brazil they both played on two pianos and performed in this formation again a few years later.

Marta Menezes and the String Trio propose, thus, a reunion between these two pianist and composers, that kept a friendship over several years, marking the 100 years of Saint-Saëns’ death and 90 years of Oswald’s death, in a rare opportunity to listen significant pieces of the chamber music repertoire of these two composers in a single concert.

Pedro Meireles, viola
