Between the figure of the Pythia and that of the Virgin, the female body becomes the bridge between heaven and earth, an instrument invested by the divine, whether through speech or through gestation and childbirth. Through this program mirroring the figure of the female receptacle of the divine in the West and the East, the Ensemble Irini explores these mystical spaces with the Prophecies of the Sibyls by Roland de Lassus and Byzantine pieces dedicated to the Virgin, including an arrangement by Koukouzélis (12th century) on the Acathist, a monumental account of the life of Mary.
Language, distorted by Lassus or distended by the Byzantine Asmatikon, fades away to give way to pure sensation. It is a new grammar that is being created, that of the meeting of music with the body, of the bodies of the singers with the body of the gesture of direction with the bodies of the listeners, in the undertow of sound waves.
